Question of the Day: How much did companies pay for a 30 second Super Bowl LII ad?
Answer: More than $5 million
Question:
- Why do companies pay so much to advertise during the Super Bowl?
- What types of companies do you think benefit the most from advertising during the Super Bowl?
- If you did watch the game yesterday, which ad was most memorable? Why?
Behind the Numbers (from CBS Sports):
By virtue of being one of the single biggest sporting events each year, the Super Bowl has massive viewership -- which also makes it one of the top marketing opportunities for different brands. For Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, a 30-second TV commercial will cost, on average, more than $5 million. You read that right: Five million dollars.

Tim's saving habits started at seven when a neighbor with a broken hip gave him a dog walking job. Her recovery, which took almost a year, resulted in Tim getting to know the bank tellers quite well (and accumulating a savings account balance of over $300!). His recent entrepreneurial adventures have included driving a shredding truck, analyzing executive compensation packages for Fortune 500 companies and helping families make better college financing decisions. After volunteering in 2010 to create and teach a personal finance program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Tim saw firsthand the impact of an engaging and activity-based curriculum, which inspired him to start a new non-profit, Next Gen Personal Finance.
