Infographic: What's A Millennial?

Great interactive (from Goldman Sachs) with graphs and charts providing insights into millenials. Since your students likely fit squarely into that group they may be curious about how they compare. Thinking about how to use such a data rich resource (there are over 20 charts and infographics buried in it). One idea: Use a polling service (I have had success with Poll Everywhere) and ask your students a question and see how their responses differ from the survey group and then use that as a jumping off point for a discussion.

Here are a few questions (and the corresponding data tables and charts) that I would lump into the category of purchase decisions and consumer attitudes and behaviors:

  • How important is it for you to own a car (click to enlarge pics)?

  • Have you purchased something on-line over the past 12 months (UK)?

  • What factors make you loyal to a brand?

  • How do you communicate with others about a service, product or brand?

We now have an activity to accompany this resource here: What is a Millennial?

About the Author

Tim Ranzetta

Tim's saving habits started at seven when a neighbor with a broken hip gave him a dog walking job. Her recovery, which took almost a year, resulted in Tim getting to know the bank tellers quite well (and accumulating a savings account balance of over $300!). His recent entrepreneurial adventures have included driving a shredding truck, analyzing executive compensation packages for Fortune 500 companies and helping families make better college financing decisions. After volunteering in 2010 to create and teach a personal finance program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Tim saw firsthand the impact of an engaging and activity-based curriculum, which inspired him to start a new non-profit, Next Gen Personal Finance.
