All About Financial Algebra Assessments

We believe Financial Algebra is the perfect math credit, so we hope your school is considering adding it to the course catalog for next year. Here's how summative assessment works in the Financial Algebra Course we've created.

Unit Tests

Every Financial Algebra unit ends with a unit test, which you can find as the last entry, after the individual lessons, on the unit's page. For example, here with Paying for College the unit test is is listed after lesson 8 in the list.

In order to see the Unit 9 Exam materials, you must be logged into a verified NGPF Teacher Account, which is completely no-cost and can be obtained using the registration link. Each unit test features:

  • Part 1: Twenty multiple-choice questions covering personal finance and math topics
  • Part 2: Five open response questions covering math topics from the unit
  • Part 3: Essay mostly focused on personal finance learning, but sometimes with light math thrown in
  • An editable Google doc format as well as the same content preloaded into Google Forms for automated grading of the multiple-choice sections
  • An answer key, available only when logged into a verified NGPF teacher account

We've designed the unit exams to assess the main math and personal finance objectives from all lessons in the units, but we understand you may choose to cut some content to meet student needs or scheduling constraints. At the bottom of each exam answer key, you can find every exam question mapped to which lesson it assesses, making it easy to cut questions you didn't teach.

Diagnostic and Final

The Financial Algebra course contains one diagnostic exam and one final, which you can access by clicking Summative Assessments in the blue box at the top of the Fin Alg Course page. Scroll down the list of course assessments until, at the bottom, you see Financial Algebra. The two exams feature:

  • Part 1: Twenty multiple-choice questions on personal finance content
  • Part 2: Ten multiple-choice questions focused on math from the entire course
  • Part 3: Five open-response math questions
  • An editable Google doc format as well as the same content preloaded into Google Forms for automated grading of the multiple-choice sections
  • An answer key, available only when logged into a verified NGPF teacher account
  • A matrix linking each question to the unit in which it's taught

The Diagnostic and Final each test the same content on a question-by-question basis, so that you can use the exams to measure growth from start to finish of the course.

Lesson Level Assessment

In case you missed it, we previously blogged about the two formats we provide for end-of-lesson assessment in the Financial Algebra Course.

If you're pitching the idea of a Financial Algebra course for next year in your school or district, please reach out to NGPF with any questions, or to let us know how we can support in bringing this perfect math credit to your school.
