“During that process [of the NFL shutdown] it was relayed by the older guys in the program, like David Diehl, Eli Manning. I remembered them getting up numerous times during that process prior to the lockout saying ‘listen fellas, don’t spend all your money, save your money. You don’t know how long this is going to last. You’re not going to get paid during the lockout.’ That got me thinking, I wasn’t playing that much before the lockout so I may need to go looking at other opportunities that are out there.”

“What really got me thinking about education I think is knowing about how a business operates. Not all the time do you see the best business ethics being applied for all stakeholders… So if I don’t want to have a feeling [of being taken advantage of] at any point in my working career, if I don’t play sports anymore, maybe going to business working in a business office might not match my needs.”

Tim Ranzetta
Tim's saving habits started at seven when a neighbor with a broken hip gave him a dog walking job. Her recovery, which took almost a year, resulted in Tim getting to know the bank tellers quite well (and accumulating a savings account balance of over $300!). His recent entrepreneurial adventures have included driving a shredding truck, analyzing executive compensation packages for Fortune 500 companies and helping families make better college financing decisions. After volunteering in 2010 to create and teach a personal finance program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Tim saw firsthand the impact of an engaging and activity-based curriculum, which inspired him to start a new non-profit, Next Gen Personal Finance.
