Get Support Planning Your Class Culminating Project
Why are we holding PD about an end-of-year culminating project now? Join me (Albert) this Tuesday for a Virtual PD session about CREATE: My Financial Flipbook and discover how you can integrate this project throughout the year. Plus, register for our other PD this week to set yourself up for a successful school year.
A Project Students Can Use Beyond Your Class
The Financial Flipbook is a fantastic, tangible project that students can take with them even after your class. As you go through the school year, you will have students reflect on the units they learn.
When I taught AP Psychology, we created an interactive notebook, where students took notes, drew pictures, graphs, charts, and added cutouts or diagrams. Even to this day, former students continue to use their notebooks in their psych courses or review it for fun!
The Financial Flipbook can be just that for your students - a project they can keep using and looking back on when they reflect on their Personal Finance class.
How My Financial Flipbook is Structured
CREATE: My Financial Flipbook gives students a template they can use to record their key learnings from each unit, including:
- #UNIT TIP -- A tip you learned that you want to remember in the future (example: #InvestingTip: Buy low, sell high.)
- DO THIS -- General best practices to manage your finances (example: Revisit my budget 2x/year to see if I need to make any adjustments.)
- GOALS -- What are your financial goals? When do you want to reach them? (example: Build a 6 month emergency fund by January of next year.)
- INSPIRATION -- Quotes, images, etc. that motivate you to reach your personal finance goals (example: a picture of Spain to motivate you to save up for an upcoming trip.)
- REFLECT -- What questions can you ask yourself on a regular basis to make sure your personal finances reflect your values and goals? (example: I value giving back to the community; does my budget reflect that?)
So I hope to see you Tuesday, where we will review the Financial Flipbook, talk implementation strategies, share resources, and collaborate with other teachers across the country. Wishing you a great start to this school year!
-Albert
P.S. Thank you to all those who attended our Back to School conference this weekend! We are always inspired by your energy, creativity, and passion. And if you missed it, do not worry. There are plenty more opportunities for PD available.
